Life is a series of changes, some good and some bad, but regardless we all have to learn to adapt to these changes. We sink or swim, and we hope that we mostly swim! We also know that it’s okay to sink a little in order to grow and learn, so a healthy mix of both is good. Our family is going through a transition time with our oldest child going off to college and while it is exciting for her and we can’t wait for her to learn about her life and who she is, it also comes with fears and a lot of uncertainty.
There are always things we have to adapt to in life and today at Streetlife I saw how the the community adapted to the new location that they have had to move to. Streetlife had to move from the location it had been at for a long time and set up somewhere else. With our community being any where from 150 to 250 friends with needs, the logistics of this can be daunting and challenging. But, the group adapted to the situation and found a solution, whether it be temporary or permanent, it’s home for now. It what I love, the sense of community and friendship and how people have each other’s backs. A community leader even showed up today to introduce himself to some of our team leaders and talked about ways he can help assist us and support us.
We had another death in the community, another overdose, and as always the community is deeply saddened by one of these deaths. They happen too often and every time it is troubling to hear about. But no matter what, we continue on with what we are doing and come together to support each other and we do so in a joyful way, filling each other’s cups.
Change happens, and we need to adapt to that change. I think the same can be said about our faith and how we apply that in our lives and how we share that. While the core values of our faith don’t change, (because somethings need to stay the same), how we apply them in our ever changing world, does change.
I think courage is key in anything we do. Someone once said, “Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen”. With courage we can adapt to change and learn and grow in any aspect of our lives.
James 1:9
Be strong and courageous. “Do not be afraid; do not be discourage, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
